With the refit of Enterprise
in the early 2270's, Star Fleet began to re-evaluate the design
of ship components, looking towards ways to make ships that can
be configured (and re-confugured) to specific missions or specifications
more quickly rather than going through an extensive design and construction
process for every ship.
The first two testbeds for this
concept were the Balson and Mars secondary hulls - Constitution
hulls with center sections added to increase their overall length.
The Balson
class secondary hull is approximately 20% longer
than the standard Constitution class secondary hull but is
otherwise identical in design and other specifications.
Hull includes removable
shuttlebay with removable bay door and one shuttlecraft. Decals
include landing targets for shuttlebay floor and walls.
The Mars
class secondary hull is approximately 40% longer
than the standard Constitution class secondary hull but is
otherwise identical in design and other specifications.
Hull includes removable
shuttlebay with removable bay door and one shuttlecraft. Decals
include landing targets for shuttlebay floor and walls.
